Paying the Bills... - Zooks - 02-13-2015

Hello Team!

Its hard to believe, but "The House of JUSTiSO" forums are nearly a year old!  Building this site has been great fun, and I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to helping it grow!

The original JUSTiSO Clan was formed in December of 2012 but the official launch of "The House of JUSTiSO" wasn't until March of 2014.  Our upcoming birthday marks a significant milestone in the evolution of our community and recently I've learned it also proves significant milestone in our billing agreement!  Now that we're officially dug in, we're conveniently no longer privy to the teaser rates for our domains and hosting.   Costs are actually set to triple next month :/.  That said, I have been considering ways to help offset the rate changes, and if approved, I may entertain an opportunity to host LIMITED adverts from relevant sponsors on sidebars or banners.

So don't be alarmed if in the coming weeks you start to see the dark side creeping in on our turf.  Its not adware hijacking your browser, its just me whoring out real-estate to help pay the bills. Wink    No worries, I don't plan on junking the place up and we wont become a commercial billboard.  If it works out though, I'm putting anything extra into monthly gem giveaways!  I honestly have no clue how it works yet but if it only generates 12-cents, or bogs down load times, or it looks like shit, we'll blast it just the same.

So that's that -- just wanted everyone know ahead of time.  I'll keep you posted as I find out more.

Till then...

CHEERS TO ALL & HAPPY B-DAY HOJ!!!  Wink

Peace, Love, Swords...

Happy birthday justiso forums!!

I think the adverts work on a pay per click type thing, so not sure how much you would get from it? as id imagine this site doesn't get a great deal of traffic.

I think youtube might be another way to do it as you get paid on them too, But do we have someone willing to make good content video's ay a frequent rate to drag the views in?? maybe silent or maybe someone else I dont know, I really dont have the time for it otherwise id have a crack.

Things like journeys from gold to masters, big loot raids, base layouts, attacks with just 1 kind of troop i.e an army full of the same troop, epic fails all drag the views in.

Just my penny's worth Smile

Mike

RE: Paying the Bills... - Zooks - 02-14-2015

For whatever reason we have a pretty steady flow of unique visitors.  We kill probably 10 IPs weekly just to keep BS accounts in check, but we still get a consistent flow of guest traffic.  Maybe this accounts for our unregistered users (still a lot of us btw), or war opponents scoping us out, or perhaps its just the never ending pool of Whosy-whats determined to peddle Viagra and debt consolidation??!!  Whatever the case, its enuff to qualify us and so I think its certainly worth giving it a shot to see if it can generate any worthwhile benefits for the team.

I agree that youtube would be a GREAT way to generate traffic and yes it DOES have its own monetization programs as well.  I suspect the video producer would probably expect the YT payout but hosting the content alone would certainly be a benefit if it brings traffic.  This can work in 2 ways.  Folks directed from google search to see the videos AND the videos should send YT traffic back by plugging/linking the site. Regarding content, "Top 5 ANYTHING...."  and tutorial based stuff is a great place to start.  There is already a ton of this content out there which means there is a good sampling from which to mirror ourselves from.  Once in a groove, I suspect branching out with a more unique series or strong personality branded stuff is the way to go.   Silent's had this on his hunny-do list for awhile, but hes still working out the kinks I guess. Wink  He's probably the best candidate since he's not only young, strapping, and skilled, but he's also an experienced Minecraft YouTuber so he knows the ropes.

I actually have a bit of professional production/editorial experience myself but I too unfortunately lack the time and resources (CPU Power) these days that are necessary to produce quality content on a regular basis.  I'm also a raging perfectionist which can be a hell of a handicap for a one man production crew under time constraints..lol     I do have some capture tools, and will attempt to start posting choice war attacks (raw) following this weeks war.  We'll see, Wink god knows I have good intentions.  At the very least, I'm ALWAYS more than happy to offer suggestions and feedback for any others out there interested in taking a crack at video production for the team.  I can provide some basic tools and will help guide the effort the best I can.

If anyone else out there has any experience in audio, video, or graphics design/creation; or is simply interested in helping somehow, please chime in on this thread or PM me directly and i'll happily put you to work. Smile

Thanks all!!

RE: Paying the Bills... - _SilentScreams_ - 02-17-2015

I mean. Thing with coc recording is Idk what to do. I mean id love to upload just random war attacks.. Maybe even some fun little clips here and there. But I dont believe it fits my actual channel. Its not tough for me to record the attacks. What's difficult is to find certain subjects and things to talk about

One thing that maybe wouldnt be too tough is something like

Top 3 attacks of the week (I take 3 attacks that were shared in chat, war attack or whatever) this wouldn't be too hard. But again I need a community for this. And if people dont show me attacks I won't be able to do this

RE: Paying the Bills... - Zooks - 02-18-2015

I agree, talking for 3 minutes straight about a single attack is harder then it looks Wink. I think if we start with something like a thread called, "Silents War Picks of the Week - [CLAN WAR #000]" and then just post 1 or more "raw" attack replays from the war events section, we'd be off to a good start. Wink  When I say "raw" I mean just post the raw video.  No commentary, no music, no annotations, just the video as it would normally roll from the reply in game.  This should hopfully obsolve the pressure of coming up with stuff to do or say.   You can then make brief comment(s) on one or more of the replays in the post itself, inviting others to chime in as well.

I'll put up a sample this evening to demonstrate.

RE: Paying the Bills... - Zooks - 02-18-2015

TESTies, TESTies, 1, 2....3?

OK, I've got the official "OK" to start embedding "code from our sponsors".  A nice way to look at it don't ya think??  Wink

First test will be at the footer of the postbit.  I originally envisioned a banner in the global footer (meaning it would show up once at the bottom of each page, but I'd like to test a few different scenarios and the post footer is one of them.  This could prove to be overkill depending on the banner size, but lets give it a few days and see how it goes.

Feedback is welcome as always but bare with me.  This is still in the testing phase and its a learning process for me as well Wink.

Thanks for the support team!

P.L.S.,

-Zooks
