What's a Forum? - Zooks - 03-28-2014 fo·rum /ˈfôrəm/ noun: a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. An Internet forum, or message board, is an online discussion site. The structure is usually hierarchical and discussions are organized by category and topic. Each new discussion started is called a thread and threads can be started by and "replied to" by anyone. The comments within the thread are often referred to as "posts" but sometimes the entire thread is called a "post" -- don't think about it to hard, it's really not that important. Forums are typically governed by users called moderators. They can move, delete and edit all content and have the power to accept, restrict and ban all users. Be nice to them, they are in charge and have the final say . Forum order is largely self-regulated. Users are encouraged to use their best discretion when considering under which topic their thread belongs. Moderators will usually lock or move miss-categorized threads and delete them entirely if content is considered spam or garbage.
